How to Tell Which Promotional Products Will Market Your Business Best

2020 was instrumental in the creation of small businesses. While many people stayed home, they found the time to pick up new hobbies and crafts, and venture new business opportunities. For both seasoned business owners and new entrepreneurs, marketing has never been more important as we begin our trek towards normalcy.

Promotional products are some of the most original and collectible items that your business can create—they attract new clientele and they ensure that your current clientele return consistently.

What Sort of Items Best Suit My Business?

It can be difficult to decide what promotional items best fit your business. You want to give off the impression that you’ve thought deeply about the best items to fit your clientele, and that you’re giving them something that they can only receive from your business. This means that if your business is hand-sewn dolls, you’re not giving your clientele self-defense key chains.

This also means that if your business is dog items, you’re not giving away cat scratching posts or bird toys. The most important aspect to correctly promoting your business is staying consistent with what your clientele expects.

Sometimes this can be difficult, because either your business is multifaceted (and thus you don’t know what aspect to promote) or, you want to provide an entire line of promotional items for your clientele. In the first instance, there are two things you can do, while in the latter there is an important caution:

(1) Do a promotion for the biggest hitting aspects of your business—for example, say you were a business owner of a company that provides office supplies to white-collar corporations, materials to custom art frame shops, and office supplies over the internet. Picking all three may turn out to be a lost cause if the least profitable aspect continues to perform poorly.

Instead, pick either the top or the top two aspects, and produce promotional pieces based on their growth. For this situation, if we take the corporations and frame shops to be the biggest profitable aspects of the business, we can produce special promotion items for each side—since both clienteles are in need of different materials from us.

Where it would be acceptable to give the cooperation pens and coffee mugs, it would be a far better choice to give the frame shop apparel and tools.

(2) In the case that you have trouble deciding on which items to promote, and so you feel that the best choice of action is to get some of every item—we would caution against this. Promotional items are meant to be innovative, tempting, and eye-catching, but also consistent with your business. There is no reason for a steel company to have promotional tissue boxes alongside their tumblers and windbreakers.

Having too many different items gives off the impression that there was no thought that went into the promotion. The goal is to stay consistent with your clientele while ensuring them that you are their company for supplying your product.

There are few better feelings in business than when you know a company has your back, and your promotional items should give off that warm, fuzzy feeling too.

Promotional Items for Employees

In terms of promotional items for your employees, the most impactful pieces you can get are going to be items of apparel or items they wear as part of a full outfit. This is because it eases the employee’s lives while giving you a walking advert. When employees are given clothes, they are comfortable wearing them at work, and most of the time, they are also comfortable wearing them outside of work as well (assuming that you allow them).

Promotional apparel should be comfortable and easy for them to wear—a scarf in a machine shop is uncomfortable, unsafe, and not easy for most people to wear—but coats, hats, tumblers, outside accessories, anything that improves their personal lives without a cost to them, is a great promotional item.

The Big Take Away

You’ll notice that there is a difference between what I’ve stated about clientele promotional items and employee promotional items. This is because your relationship is different with both groups.

Your clientele promotional needs to meet these ideals:

  • It consists of three or four items, not over five.
  • The items must remain consistent to the themes developed by your business, they must show a considerate, developed, thought process.
  • The items should reflect what your clientele needs, not candy and flowers.
  • The items should some sort of initiative, goal, or eye-catching standards.

Your employee promotional needs to meet these ideals:

  • Multiple items are alright here but giving your employees the ability to choose their items, is always the best way to go.
  • Items must attempt to relieve stress in their personal lives—but they must be appropriate and consistent with your company.
  • Remember that your employees are the public and most extensive part of your business, so encourage them to wear their promotional items inside and outside of work. Usually, those companies which give their employees good promotional items, also have good product outcomes.
