4 Tips for Marketing a Criminal Defense Law Firm

Succeeding as a criminal defense attorney requires more than merely providing your clients with high-quality representation. Although that’s certainly the most important factor influencing your potential to succeed, it’s also smart to remember that you need to attract clients in the first place. You can do so by implementing a thorough marketing campaign.

A single blog entry won’t teach you everything you need to know about marketing your law firm. Entire books can be written about this subject. However, the following tips will help you begin planning a campaign that delivers results.

Ask for Referrals

Your goal is to provide your clients with the representation they deserve. If you genuinely succeed in doing so, your clients may be willing to refer you to others. At the very least, they will be more likely to leave positive reviews on sites such as Avvo.

Embrace Content Marketing

When Bill Gates famously predicted “content is king,” he knew exactly what he was talking about. One of the best ways to attract customers in virtually any line of work is to provide them with valuable content.

What qualifies as “valuable content” will naturally vary from one industry and field to another. In your case, the type of content that might appeal to your customers would be content that answers questions they may have about legal issues.

For example, someone recently arrested for a DUI may be Googling such questions as “What are the penalties for a first-time DUI in [insert your state here]?” You can provide them with valuable content in the form of a blog entry that addresses their concerns.

Doing so will boost the odds of potential clients finding your website when they conduct Google searches. It will also help you establish yourself as an authority on legal topics. This will make you seem more trustworthy to potential clients.

Yes, generating content is time-consuming, but it’s also not a task you necessarily need to complete on your own. You can hire a freelancer to write blogs for you if they can demonstrate they have an understanding of the law, or at least an ability to conduct proper research.

Consider Radio Ads

In the digital age, advertising a law firm via radio may seem to be a very old-fashioned tactic. While it’s true that radio advertising is no longer ideal for some professionals and brands, as a criminal defense attorney, you may actually benefit from buying some ads on the radio.

This is because criminal defense attorneys tend to only serve clients in limited geographic areas. If you’re a criminal defense lawyer in New York City, it’s unlikely you’ll be working with many clients from LA.

Advertising on the radio gives you the opportunity to market your firm to a localized audience. While you shouldn’t exclusively advertise on radio, it is a method that has the potential to yield a reasonably strong return on investment.

Advertise on Facebook

Facebook literally has billions of users across a range of demographics. Running ads on Facebook thus gives you the chance to reach a large number of potential clients.

When you plan a Facebook ad campaign, you also have the freedom to specify which part of the country you want users who see your ads to live in. Like advertising on radio, when you advertise on Facebook, you can optimize your return on investment by only marketing your firm to people who live in the areas you serve.

Just be aware that any form of marketing can be complex. You’ll have to experiment with a variety of tactics to ensure ideal results. However, if you’re persistent, you can help your firm grow substantially.

How to Plan a Cloud Content Migration Strategy

Cloud computing solutions come in many forms. In general, though, they enable businesses to store and manage digital assets (such as files, apps, etc.) in a network of servers that the cloud services and solutions provider owns and operates.

Developing a cloud migration strategy is a smart way to ensure your firm remains competitive in the digital age. However, the process of migrating to the cloud can appear too intimidating or time consuming to some.

That’s understandable. But if you have had that reaction, it shouldn’t prevent you from taking advantage of cloud computing solutions. To learn how to plan a cloud migration that’s efficient and painless, continue reading this article.

Why Cloud Migration is Important

Some business leaders resist migrating to the cloud not only because they don’t know how, but because they may not be aware of the potential benefits of doing so.

There are many reasons to prioritize cloud migration. Security is one of them. Experts have begun to reach a consensus, with many believing the content and data stored in the cloud is safer than information a business stores on its own servers.

That leads directly to another advantage of cloud migration: it saves money. When you store data in the cloud, you don’t have to spend as much on IT infrastructure.

In addition, the cloud computing market is consistently growing at a fast rate, because there’s such a demand from companies who are adopting cloud solutions. This is an instance where you shouldn’t try to distinguish your operation by rejecting the popular wisdom; cloud computing is growing in popularity because it offers many tangible benefits.

These are just a few of the reasons you ought to develop and implement a cloud migration strategy. The following tips will help you to do so.

Research Your Tools

Using the proper tools is key to migrating to the cloud. You’ll swiftly discover there are many available options when you begin to research them.

Not all cloud computing tools and services are equal, of course. You’ll want to choose the one that will best serve your needs, fit your budget, and provide optimal security.

Organize a team of essential stakeholders and decision-makers who can assist in reviewing and testing the various cloud computing products you consider using. It’s also a good idea to solicit the input of your IT team.

They may be more familiar with useful products. Your tech people could also have unique insights with regard to how to achieve a successful and efficient migration to the cloud.

Make a List of Priorities

Your eventual goal may be to migrate nearly all your firm’s content and digital assets to the cloud. But you don’t need to transfer everything at once.

That’s an impractical notion. The process of cloud migration will indeed be too overwhelming even to consider if you try to transfer all your assets to the cloud at one time.

Instead, make a list of high-priority items that should be transferred first. Ideally, your list will have tiers, with top-priority items, low-priority items, and possibly many others in between.

This will allow you to separate the cloud migration process into manageable “chunks,” which naturally makes the process easier.

Take Advantage of Training

Certain providers of cloud computing services and solutions also offer consulting services and training. They understand their customers may not entirely know how to go about the process of cloud migration.

Such providers will help by training you. Typically, they’ll also offer tools to facilitate an easier migration. Look for a cloud computing services provider that can assist you in this way.

Again, there are many good reasons to prioritize cloud migration, and virtually no good excuses not to. You just have to understand how to get started. These tips will help.

5 Easy Cost-Cutting Strategies for Law Firms

By and large, law firms respond to financial downturns better than most other professional services. However, after the unprecedented disruption of COVID-19, many companies offering legal services have seen their growth interrupted as a result.

If your law firm falls into this camp, there are generally two paths to travel down — finding ways to bring in more business or implementing cost-cutting strategies.

In this article, we focus on the latter by outlining 5 simple but effective cost-cutting techniques that are guaranteed to expand your company’s bottom line. While flex loans and other financing options may help expand your resources, reimagining some of your current business activities might also pay off in the long run.

From utilizing tech to outsourcing services, stick with us if you’re looking for easy ways to streamline your law firm’s operations while cutting down on unnecessary spendings.

Go Digital

Simply put, paper costs money. Following this logic, if your firm turns its operations paperless, it’s an effective way to save a lot of money. According to research by the software developers Reckon, employee printing and the use of traditional filing methods can cost a small business as much as £14,616 a year, and this doesn’t even factor in the price of additional pieces of stationery.

Therefore, by switching to digital solutions, your small-to-medium-sized business (SMB) can cut back on overheads—without sacrificing its competitive edge.

What’s more, in addition to the cost reductions of going digital, introducing new technology into your law firm can also improve efficiency. Specifically, by reducing the clutter of physical documents, your practice can become more organized, and you could potentially reduce your company’s office space and utility costs.

If this interests you, we recommend that you set measurable goals and establish a detailed paper-producing process before you implement any company-wide changes.

Develop a Content Marketing Strategy

The legal sector is competitive. So if your firm has been relying on the same marketing strategy for years, it may be time to revisit its effectiveness. It’s all too common for law services to pump their budgets into costly campaigns that aren’t delivering a promising return on investments (ROI).

But in 2021, content marketing can offer businesses a useful way to communicate to their existing customer base and attract new audiences without breaking the bank.

When figuring out your firm’s content marketing strategy, it’s advised to start with a strong content plan first. This content plan should consider all the varied ways you can repurpose longer-form pieces of writing into shorter, snappier pieces of copy for your social media channels.

It’s also wise to brush up on SEO strategies like keyword research, link building, and user experience to ensure your content can rank as high on search engines as possible.

Outsource Legal Services

In the present day, almost any law firm service can be outsourced. This means that if your company currently conducts its IT services, content production, administrative support, and financial services in-house, cheaper, more appropriate options may be available.

Also, if your law firm is serious about cutting down unnecessary spendings, it may also be worth looking into legal process outsourcing.

Legal process outsourcing is the practice of transferring services conducted by lawyers, paralegals and other professionals to other service providers based outside of the company. When using this method, firms typically outsource legal services such as document processing, contract drafting or litigation support, but there really is no limit to what services are available.

Legal outsourcing can rid firms of the routine tasks they conduct daily, and this can allow them to save time, lower their workloads, and crucially, cut costs. If this sounds like something your firm could benefit from, it may be useful to refer to this guide from the Association of Corporate Counsel.

Rethink Your Employee Benefits

Another way to reduce the overheads of your law firm is to reassess the benefits that you are giving to your employees. While this course of action may not be the most favorable way to cut down costs, it is possible to revise your employee benefits without your team losing out in the process.

A lot of legal firms automatically offer their workers extensive healthcare plans which cover a wide variety of needs. While these perks are beneficial to the health and emotional wellbeing of employees, in many cases, many of these services remain unused. In these instances, it might be wise to explore which other plans are available.

One way your law firm could reform employee benefits is by offering members of staff a ‘basic plan’ which they can upgrade and customize to their needs if they see fit. This helps prevent services from being underused, and it also is a very effective way to cut back on extraneous expenses.

Consider Keeping Operations Remote

As a result of the coronavirus outbreak, large swathes of the population began to work remotely in 2020. This switch was much more common for those who were working in the legal sector, with a survey by Weekly10 revealing that 80% of UK legal workers ditched the physical workspace throughout this time.

Now, as regulations are lifting and offices are opening up again, many business owners are opting to scale back their central headquarters to reduce unnecessary costs.

While physical offices are useful environments to collaborate and socialize, now that remote infrastructure has been put into place, they may not be necessary to a company’s central operations.

By allowing some employees to work from home, considering co-working options, and renting out affordable conference spaces, law firms can still provide spaces where clients and colleagues can meet in person, without having to front the exorbitant overheads of a permanent office.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, your business’s long-term success hinges on its ability to keep profits higher than its outcomings. While changes can’t be made overnight, if you follow the suggestions we’ve listed above, your law firm has a much greater chance of controlling its cash flow—while staying competitive in this crowded market. I

t’s best to take proactive measures to cut costs where you can. Once you’ve done this, you may even want to explore the business funding options that can help take your organisations to the next level.

Tips for Impressing Potential Employers with your Resume

Having to shuffle through dozens of submitted resumes forces recruiters to be strict. Therefore, it is hard to stand out in the crowd and develop a resume that catches their eyes. It’s challenging to hide what’s lacking in your career from a recruiter. After all, they’ve been handling resumes for years, and they know every trick in the book.

So, what should you know about producing an eye-catching resume? What comes after your resume impresses a potential employer? You might be surprised, but your digital footprints play a role in any hiring process. If you wish to have a smooth job hunting, knowing the following rules is essential.

Be Concise and To-the-Point

Don’t use highly complicated language. In some cases, recruiters want you to get straight to the point. Thus, you should be direct and to the point with your facts. Don’t make recruiters rummage through lines of resume jargon before they reach the facts about the kind of career trajectory you possess.

Instead of using flowery language, you must present your facts in a no-nonsense manner. For example, stating that you led a sales team to bag “impressive and prestigious projects to earn the adulation of your colleagues and the admiration your superiors” doesn’t have as much impact as stating which projects you bagged.

Avoid Clichés

Contrary to popular belief, copying isn’t a good idea when writing a resume. People seem to be under the impression that words frequently appearing on other resumes apply to their own resumes as well.

Recruiters are tired of clichés like “a result-driven team player with good communication skills.” You should sound different from the others. Therefore, it’s a wise idea to leave out these much-used phrases that appear in the resumes of an overwhelming majority of applicants. Including them makes your resume yet another set of papers a recruiter would just shuffle through.

Let Your Personality Shine Through

Avoiding clichés gives your resume a fresh feel to it. It’s a break from the mundane for recruiters. Straightforward resume listing facts and important information about your career make the recruiters sit up and take note. Instead of merely borrowing ideas and copying common phrases generally used in resumes, write yours in your own language. It makes your resume unique, giving it a distinct character. Yes, it’s a reflection of your personality- it shows what makes you different from others.

We’ve given you a run-down on how you should write a resume that piques the interest of recruiters and has the desired impact on them. Let’s now look into another aspect ignoring which may give you a setback in the race of landing yourself a job. You must hide incriminating information about yourself, which could provide your potential recruiters second thoughts about hiring you. Besides, it’s also about protecting your privacy. Here’s how:

Search Yourself on Google

Google yourself to see your presence on the internet. You are likely to find yourself appearing on the internet through Facebook and LinkedIn posts. Your presence on YouTube, Pinterest, and Instagram are likely to show up as well. This search tells you how easy it is for others to find you on the internet. There can be things that you don’t want recruiters to see. Therefore, it’s important that you limit the details available about you online.

Hide Your Photos

Recruiters might find access to your photos, and some of them might not be appropriate. Of course, you don’t need to hide all your photos, but there are likely to be a few that you wouldn’t want your prospective recruiters to see.

What do you do? The best thing to do is to change the privacy settings on your social media profiles. You’ll simply have to locate the ‘limit the audience for posts you’ve shared with friends or public?’ and change the settings to ‘friends only.’ It makes sure that what you post on social media stays confined to only your friends.

Reduce Digital Footprints

Most of your online activity can be identified according to your IP address. Other than that, there are other passive footprints you leave behind. Depending on the job you apply for, the effort recruiters put into the background research will be different. However, to minimize actions that can be traced back to you, you can install a VPN. It will ensure that your digital life will become more private and anonymous.

Conclusion

In the crowd of resumes, yours should stand out. It should be a breath of fresh air for the recruiters. Remember, they are tired of coming across as “motivated, hard workers eager to learn.” You should be someone different. Show your distinct personality on your resume by following our tips. Also, snaps of you college life on the internet are likely to put off your probable recruiters. Hence, be careful about what you share on social media and who you share it with.

Bryn Carden Saves the Day with a College Move-In Checklist

Graduating high school and getting accepted into college is an exciting time in many students’ lives; it marks the end of educational achievement and the start of a new and unfamiliar chapter. Preparing for your first year of college can seem like a lot when you do not know what to expect or pack for move-in day.

Bryn Carden, a current college student majoring in Finance with a Real Estate concentration at Texas Christian University’s Neeley School of Business, says that being prepared and having a positive first college experience can drastically help when leaving home and transitioning to the university lifestyle. Carden offers a helping hand to students getting ready to start their freshman year as undergraduates by reviewing a college move-in checklist that goes into detail about what to bring and expect in a dorm room.

Dorm Life

It is a good idea to get an image of what dorm life is like before starting to check off what you will need to bring to college. Living in a dorm usually involves having a roommate, community or shared bathrooms, showers, and laundry room, and a small space to call your own. Dorm life can differ depending on the college you attend, but most of them share similar traits. Sharing cleaning areas like the bathroom and laundry room can be made easier by keeping a few things in mind. Wearing flip-flops in the shower can help avoid infections being transmitted through the feet. A bathrobe to cover up and a shower carrier for your shampoo and soap are essential for going from your dorm room to the shower and back.

Packing for a Dorm Room

Remember, you will most likely be sharing your room with another student, so you do not want to bring too much stuff to overcrowd the room. A great way to get organized while packing is to divide up what you need based on your living area. A dorm room commonly provides a bed frame and either twin or extra large twin mattress, a closet, and a desk for each student in the room. First, think about what you will need for your sleeping needs. You will need sheets to fit your mattress, pillows, either a comforter or quilt, and anything else you would like to add to your bed. Some college students like to decorate around their beds with either pictures of friends or art. If you want to hang a string of lights, it is always respectful to ask your roommate if it is okay that you do so since space is shared. A bedside lamp is excellent for late-night reading, and earplugs or an eye mask help decrease additional distractions from sleep. You can make your bed more comfortable by bringing a mattress pad, too.

Next, think about things you need for your closet, such as clothes, shoes, iron or steamer, and additional accessories. The closet is a perfect place to store cleaning supplies such as disinfectant wipes, paper towels, a mini vacuum, laundry detergent, dryer sheets, and any toiletries or health and wellness supplies you use. Do not forget to bring a laundry basket for transporting dirty and clean clothes back and forth from the laundry room. Toilet paper is usually already provided in every bathroom by the university.

After packing those things, think about what you need for your desk area. Every student needs a laptop but also think about things that would make doing schoolwork simpler, like a pencil and pen cup, printer, paper, stapler, desk lamp, small trashcan, and any other office supplies that you use. Some colleges provide a desk chair, so you might want to wait until you get to the dorm room to see if you need to buy a desk chair.

Do not fret if you forget to pack anything. Research if there is a Walmart or Target close to the campus to have peace of mind that you can get whatever you need if something does not make it in the packing pile.

Holiday Staffing: Preparing Adequately For The Rush Seasons

It’s summertime again! It is the season for the outdoors, for traveling, picnics, and lots of lodgings at hotels and holiday resorts. For many people, this is the fun part of the year.

However, if you are in the hotel, resort, or restaurant business, this is your busiest time of the year. It is equally your most draining time of the year and this is simply because of the number of people that will be visiting your establishment. If managed properly, this could be the most profitable season of the year for you but if not well managed, can be hell on earth.

Finding The Right Balance

As with many things in life, finding the right balance can go a long way in aiding your business this season. Finding the right balance, as it concerns holiday staffing in this line of business, basically has to do with proper planning and scheduling, particularly your employee and work schedules.

Most business people are in a bid to be either proactive in anticipating customers over staff their workspace while others in trying to be careful or in not being prepared for the season understaff. Each of these occurrences has its own effects or consequences which shall be mentioned below.

Consequences Of Overstaffing

Low Profits

Aside from the cost of food, drinks, and beverages, labor is the next most cost-consuming aspect of running a restaurant. Thus, when you overstaff your establishment, you eat very deep into the profit that you should have made, and remember, initial capital and cost of running the business are all on you.

Risk Of Underpaying or relieving Your Employees Of Their Duties

Obviously, when you discover that you have overstaffed, the next thought in your head is damage control and the next thing is, you start relieving some of their duties. This doesn’t generally bode well for your reputation and will of course make for some disaffected staff. The other option, however, is to keep some of your employees and then underpay them.

Unproductive Employees

Well, if there’s nothing much for your employees to do, then you will invariably have unproductive employees. It is important to note though, that sometimes, it is not a matter of overstaffing really, rather, there are times when there is a rush of customers and times when there is a huge decrease in customer patronage. Anyway, when there is less patronage, your employees will not be fully occupied.

Consequences Of Understaffing

Terrible Service

It is always annoying to come to a restaurant and have to wait for a while before being attended to. This will inevitably occur where there is a case of understaffing and you will have disgruntled customers.

Over Worked Staff

Well, where there is a case of understaffing, the available staff will inevitably bear the brunt. Most times, staff begin to get cranky as the stress starts taking its toll on their body. It can also affect attitude towards both fellow staff and even the customers.

Untidy Work Place

In this sort of environment where there is already too much stress, the priority becomes to attend to the customers as quickly as possible. Other aspects of the restaurant business like tidying up the hall and all such duties become quite irrelevant and this will generally make for an untidy work environment. You can read more on how to keep your restaurant clean at https://www.wilkinslinen.com/restaurants/6-practical-tips-to-improve-restaurant-cleanliness/ .

Tips For Improving Holiday Staffing

Plan Early

This basically means that you ensure to make adequate preparations before the season comes upon you. Different establishments would have various issues thus; there’s no one shoe fits all strategy to this. However, take stock of how things went the previous season, consider current events, and finally what you can afford even if things don’t go as well as you might plan, and then draw up your plan.

Advertise The Positions Available

This point had to come second because it is during planning that you take stock of what you need and what you don’t. When you have done this, you can now place adverts on the available slots that need to be filled in your establishment.

Train Your Employees

This is another advantage to starting your plans early. This is because, you will be able to not just advertise the available slots on time, but also properly train your employees on the necessary skills needed for the task ahead. This way, you and your staff are adequately prepared for the summer rush. You can read more on this here.

Conclusion

The aim of every business is to make a profit and every business has that season or time of the year that seems to favor it the most. For those in the hospitality industry, especially restaurants, summertime is that season.

But though it is the season to make a fortune, failing to prepare for the season can end up being more costly than rewarding. This is why you need to prepare well, especially as it concerns holiday staffing.

What Is Open Source Intelligence or OSINT?

With the onset of the World Wide Web era, a considerable number of opportunities for finding necessary information have appeared. The most important idea about them is the possibility of collecting data through open sources, which is the merit of Open Source Intelligence (OSINT).

Whether you are a security official or a private user, you can easily find out any information required. Intelligence systems are in the process of constant development and improvement, and Social Links will contribute to your profound understanding of the topic.

Definition and Figures

The term Open Source Intelligence was initially connected with military and security services. This practice was implemented for gathering important publicly available knowledge for protecting national security. With the emerging of large networks, it’s being utilized in all aspects of people’s lives and for various purposes.

In simple words, this is the methodology of selection, accumulation, and processing of information from free channels. According to statistics, approximately 80% of the data stored can be collected freely without any additional help.

Mind the Difference

It may seem from the description that every user is involved in OSINT without even realizing it, but it is not completely true. Surfing the net enables a person to monitor superficial information without deep further analysis. At the same time, the OSINT system requires paying attention to the tiniest details and particular features of the content to answer some definite questions.

For instance, when studying a publication in a social network, an OSINT professional looks into its date, content type, geolocation, watermarks, users’ interest, and target audience. This up-to-date methodology can reveal almost everything about a person.

Types and Examples

Online and offline OSINT sources can be divided into several groups. The most popular are:

  • the Internet (web-pages, blogs, forums, IP-addresses, sharing sites, social networking sites, and so on);
  • conventional sources of news (television, radio, newspapers, brochures, and others);
  • specialized literature, monographs, scientific notes, and speeches;
  • media resources, namely, photos and videos;
  • location tags.

How to Make Use of OSINT?

OSINT is a universal instrument that is advantageous in every sphere of modern life. Many corporations value it for delivering information about the growth of contemporary markets, assessing risks, researching a target audience, and monitoring user activity.

OSINT tools are especially beneficial for companies with low or limited budgets, as they utilize information from publicly available sources. Big companies also apply Open Source Intelligence to protect confidential data and avoid leakage.

Advantages of OSINT

While creating new ways of interpreting information, OSINT has numerous benefits:

  • Minimal risk. Usage of publicly available data leads to reducing possible dangers associated with other forms of intelligence.
  • Affordable cost. Open Source Intelligence is rather cheap, while alternative ways of acquiring information are more expensive.
  • Up-to-dateness. Information from open sources is available at every minute and easy to access.
  • Legality. There is no need to worry about copyright licenses, as the information is already available to the public.

As a result, Open Source Intelligence is cost-efficient and time-saving, providing valuable knowledge for professional development.
