When it comes to holidays, the most difficult thing is to choose a holiday destination. With so many countries and cities to choose from, people usually feel like they’re spoiled for choices. While some like new places to explore, some tend to go to the same places again and again.
For example, many people love France and go to visit Paris whenever they need a holiday. But there are more countries which can be explored and one such place is Belgium. It’s one of the smallest countries in Europe but its difference is that it’s steeped in history. It has many places which you can visit so it’s easy to enjoy with your family and friends.
Brussels:
Brussels is the capital of Belgium and a wonderful city where both adults and kids can experience something to enjoy. Bruges is a UNESCO World Heritage city that offers lots of activities you can try. If you love Michelangelo’s works then you’ll surely love to visit the Notre Dame a Bruges statue of the Madonna and child. It’s the only Michelangelo masterpiece that you can find outside Italy.
There are also many museums in the city such as the Chip museum, the Folklore Museum, and the Groeninge museum which are all must visits when in this city. The city also has a canal network which you can roam on a guided tour. With the above choices, you’ll surely enjoy the scenery in the said city!
Ardennes:
This is the place to go to if you like adventures. The place is full of glorious castles, villages, rivers, hills, and everything that you’d love to explore if you were the adventurous type. You can go kayaking and canoeing in the rivers or you can go rock climbing as well.
Ziplining is also something you can try in the city. If you’re up for a bit more physical work, you can try to hike around and get to see its scenic places. Staying overnight after all that hiking is also a viable option too. There are many family campsites in the city where you can enjoy camping. Ghent:
Ghent is a lovely city which can be traversed using water trams, you can just hop in and hop off wherever you want. There are many museums like the Ghent Design Museum and the Ghent City Museum which you should both visit. The flower market on Sundays is another interesting place to try especially if you’re into flowers. The Ghent Altarpiece is also a place many tourists go to when in the city.
Mons:
If you like Gothic architecture then you should visit Mons. For the Van Gogh enthusiasts, you’ll be excited to know that he lived here. As a matter of fact, there’s a Van Gogh Museum standing there now which was dedicated to the time he stayed in the city. Another museum you may want to try is the Doudou Museum which is also a must see while here.
The first children’s spa in Belgium is another place that’s worth a visit if you’re traveling with children. If you’re also traveling during Trinity Sunday then you shouldn’t miss the mock battle between Saint George and the Dragon as well.
