Although most businesses tend to organize various forms of corporate events, team building activities, dinners, parties and all other forms of get-togethers, at some point, one just has to crank it up a notch. Of course, if your team is consisted of somewhat unadventurous spirits, sure, keep things simple. Go! Have your fancy dinner parties at that same old restaurant just down the street from your office. Or, you can try some of these.
1. Team Up For a Noble Cause
Imagine a world where people helped each other all the time. That would be nice… Right? Now, open your eyes. Oops, I didn’t tell you to close your eyes. My mistake.
If every office would do volunteer work as a team building activity, the world would be a better place. And, as we all know, every trend is small when it starts. However, if it were to explode and go viral, that would be one step further for us. The thrill of helping those in need is something that is invaluable, and doing it with your coworkers back to back should be the definition of team building.
This might be a little out there, but if you have the right group of people, you should really give it a shot.
2. Racing (Productively) For the Win
Now, you should know that kayak fishing involves a lot more than just, well, kayaks and fishing. The whole office will get to enjoy the great outdoors together and that alone is awesome enough. Oh, and one other thing. Kayak fishing is a sport, and it’s becoming more popular by the minute. You can organize two kayaks and two competitors for each turn. Naturally, there has to be a river. You have a starting line and a finish line, and the one who catches the most fish wins. Of course, you have to make sure that you order a safe vessel, so it’s best to check out some kayak reviews, before you make the final decision.
The winner can take the fish home, if he or she prefers to, but we prefer a barbecue on the spot.
3. Think Outside Of the Room
Now, this one is interesting. You put your team in a situation where they have to work together in order to solve a series of puzzles and mazes and eventually, as the name suggests, escape the room. There is a time limit, which adds a certain dose of excitement to the mix.
Critical thinking is what’s important here. One of the key goals of team building is to improve the way your team collaborates. While they are solving puzzles, the team leader can examine strengths and weaknesses of each individual, thereby learning how to improve the dynamics of the entire team.
4. Take the Edge Off
A lot of offices out there play Counter Strike, or Call of Duty, or Battlefield, or any other computer game that lets you shoot your coworkers while comfortably sitting in your ergonomic office chair. Sure, it can be a good way to take the edge off. However, you should know that a little exercise won’t do you any harm.
There tends to be a lot of tension in the office environment. This is true because there is no HR’s desk that has no paperwork. Issues arise, conflicts arise and there has to be some way to deal with all of that. Laser tag lets you shoot at your bosses in person, without harming them. It lets bosses shoot at employees as well.
Boom. Everyone’s happy.
5. Make Healthy Your Watercooler Talk Topic
And now for something completely different. When it comes to what people eat while they are at work, the usual go to food is fast food; something easy to buy and easy to order. A cooking class is actually what each busy office craves for, and they don’t even know it. If your team can learn how to cook together, it will make their daily cooking habits just better. They will be happier at work, and who knows; they might even end up throwing a cook-off outside of the workplace. Now that’s team building.
All of the aforementioned ideas are good, but you should look for more during your next barnstorming session. Just make sure that you have fun, because that’s what matters most.
